    Advocate of the Month

    We are proud to honor Kylar Broadus as our Advocate of the Month for June 2021! Kylar has a long history of serving the ABA and advocating for legal issues. He is a past Commissioner on the ABA Commission on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) and will serve as the SOGI Commission special Advisor during the 2021-22 bar year. Kylar is a proud Black trans man that has been a pioneer in the movement as an attorney, long-time activist, public speaker, author and professor. He is known worldwide for his avant-garde work in the LGBT and Trans movements. He is also the first openly transgender person to testify before the Senate when he spoke in support of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. He was also present next to President Obama during the signing of a 2014 executive order regarding further amendments to Executive Order 11478, Equal Employment Opportunity in the Federal Government, and Executive Order 11246, Equal Employment Opportunity, to protect LGBT employees from workplace discrimination.

    About the Washington Letter

    The ABA Washington Letter is a monthly publication produced by the Governmental Affairs Office to report and analyze congressional and executive branch action on legislative issues of interest to the ABA and the legal profession. The newsletter highlights ABA involvement in the federal legislative process and focuses on the association's legislative and governmental priorities and other issues on which the ABA has policy.
