    Advocate of the Month

    We are pleased to honor Dashawn R. Cason as our Advocate of the Month for February 2024 for his help in advancing the ABA’s advocacy efforts, including his leadership in increasing civic engagement for young lawyers nationwide. In addition to serving as a member of the Missouri Bar Association Young Lawyers' Section Council, Dashawn serves as the only young lawyer on the Government Relations Committee of the Missouri Bar Association. Additionally, Dashawn serves as the Vice-Director of Civic Engagement for the Young Lawyers’ Division of the ABA, where he is partnering with ABA GAO on several programs with twin goals of educating and equipping young lawyers to engage civically in their respective communities. An Assistant City Counselor for the St. Louis Missouri Civil Law Department, Dashawn has worked on a breadth of matters in his first three years of practice ranging from civil litigation to municipal prosecution. As a first generation college and law school graduate and former ward of the State of Illinois, Dashawn advances children’s rights as the President of the Junior Board of Directors of the Foster & Adoptive Care Coalition of Missouri. In March, Dashawn will be transitioning to private practice  where he will  join the full-service regional law firm of Heyl, Royster, Voelker & Allen as an Associate Attorney.

    About the Washington Letter

    The ABA Washington Letter is a monthly publication produced by the Governmental Affairs Office to report and analyze congressional and executive branch action on legislative issues of interest to the ABA and the legal profession. The newsletter highlights ABA involvement in the federal legislative process and focuses on the association's legislative and governmental priorities and other issues on which the ABA has policy.
