116th Congressional Priorities

2018-2019 Legislative Priorities Survey Standards

During the ABA Midyear Meeting in January 2019, the ABA Board of Governors will establish the Association's Legislative and Governmental Priorities for the 116th Congress. The Board’s designation of certain policy positions of the Association as Priorities focuses the advocacy efforts of the Governmental Affairs Office before Congress and the Executive Branch. Your views very are important. As you take the survey, please keep in mind the following list of criteria used by the Board in establishing the Association's Legislative and Governmental Priorities. 

Standards for Setting Priorities as Adopted by the ABA Board of Governors:

  • Expertise of Lawyers on the Issue
  • Timeliness of the Issue
  • Potential for Achievement
  • Public Perception of the Profession
  • Importance to the Practice of Law
  • Breadth and Strength of ABA Interest
  • Opportunity for Impact
  • Importance to the Administration of Justice
