ABA honors Sonnett, Military Spouse J.D. Network, law students with Grassroots Advocacy Awards

The American Bar Association’s 20th Annual ABA Day in Washington kicked into gear early Wednesday morning April 20 with some 300 state, local and specialty bar leaders from across the nation descending on Capitol Hill for the first of two days of lobbying lawmakers and ended Wednesday night with the presentation of this year’s Grassroots Advocacy Awards.

ABA Day 2013: 50 States Take ABA Message to Congress

Participants from all 50 states, Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C., came together on Capitol Hill for ABA Day 2013, the association’s annual effort to connect policymakers with their constituents in the legal profession. The event, held April 16-18, drew volunteer leaders from local, state and specialty bar associations who advocated for funding for the Legal Services Corporation, filling federal judicial vacancies and funding for the judiciary.

Congressman and His Army Commander Reunite During ABA Day After 42 Years

Although they hadn’t laid eyes on each other in 42 years, Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen and lawyer Richard Leefe still felt an immediate connection when they reunited last week.  “All of a sudden, he arrived outside my office,” the New Jersey Republican said. “We had immediate recognition. That was an emotional moment.”
