Annabelle Werner joined ABA ROLI's Africa division in summer of 2023. She graduated from UCLA with a B.A. in political science, international development, and human rights and international legal studies. In conjunction with her third major, she completed a thesis on the potentiality of regional human rights mechanisms to try international crimes, specially focusing on the African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights.
Before coming to ABA, Werner completed research internships covering atrocity prevention topics with the Global Centre for the Responsibility to Protect and the U.S. State Department. Werner also completed programmatic internships focused on access to justice initiatives in Arusha and Geneva in addition to conducting a remote internship with a grassroots NGO in Cameroon. Further, she is drawn to the intersection of foreign policy journalism and human rights advocacy. Annabelle was the Editor of the UCLA Burkle Center’s student-run foreign policy magazine and later wrote for a multimedia platform on post-conflict topics as an intern in Sarajevo.
