As Director of ABA Security, Norman Sheehan is responsible day-to-day management of the ABA’s safety and security initiatives. He brings more than 30 years of safety and security experience to the American Bar Association (ABA). He started his career with the American Bar Association in 2022 where he conducts safety and security assessments, develops safety and security policies and procedures, and establishes safety and security training programs.
Norm joined the ABA after having successfully operated his own safety and security consulting business for the past 7 years, where his clients included: Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, John Snow Inc., Chemonics International, Ball State University, Cultivating New Frontiers in Agriculture, (CNFA), Global Fund for Children, Results for Development, IREX and the University of North Carolina.
Prior to operating his own business, Norm was the Director for Safety and Security, Conflict and Disaster Management at Chemonics. He also held high-level safety and security positions at FHI360 (Global Disaster Management and Security Director), CARE (Humanitarian Disaster and Safety and Security Specialist), War Child (CEO), and GOAL Ireland (various positions). Norm has worked in challenging environments such as: Afghanistan, Albania, Bolivia, Congo, Honduras, Iran, Iraq, Jamaica, Kenya, Liberia, Mozambique, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Somalia, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Uganda and the West Bank and Gaza. He is a member of the Colona, IL Fire Department’s Special Operations and First Responder unit.
