Maja Pecanac joined ABA ROLI in November 2020 to oversee the implementation of its rule of law and access to justice program portfolio in DR Congo. Maja has extensive expertise in transitional justice, rule of law and human rights protection initiatives. While working for different organizations (GIZ, USAID, FES, UNFPA, etc.), she provided policy-oriented and advisory assistance on legal, human rights and humanitarian concerns. Before joining ABA ROLI, Maja was a Legal Advisor at GIZ on their legal system strengthening programs in the Western Balkans as well as Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Project Portfolio Development and Management Consultant in Bosnia and Rwanda. Moreover, she worked on strengthening the capacity of Bosnia and Herzegovina state parliament through technical assistance, under the auspices of the USAID parliamentary strengthening projects. Maja holds an LLM in Human Rights, Conflict and Justice from SOAS, University of London, and LLB from the University of Sarajevo. She is also a Rotary Peace Fellow, having completed the Peace and Conflict Resolution Fellowship at Chulalongkorn University in Thailand.
