Lauren Loveland, Country Director for Libya and Tunisia, has 14 years of experience in rule of law, governance, and peacebuilding in MENA, Asia, and Africa . Prior to joining ABA ROLI in 2020, she oversaw Myanmar programming and regional initiatives for National Democratic Institute’s (NDI) Asia-Pacific team. Previously, Lauren worked in NDI’s Iraq office to support inclusive dialogue around political reform, facilitating multi-stakeholder efforts to address violence against women in politics, promote women’s political participation, and human rights advocacy.

She led NDI’s efforts on Syria, from Turkey, to strengthen civil society engagement in peacebuilding—focusing on participatory constitutional development, transitional justice, and inclusion in political transition—and support human rights defenders in addressing sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in the conflict. Lauren has also worked in Afghanistan, Liberia, Cambodia, and Bangladesh; and served as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in Namibia. She holds a Juris Doctor from The George Washington University Law School, an M.A. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, and B.A. from Boston University. Lauren currently oversees programming in Libya and Tunisia.
