Francisco Ciampolini joined ABA ROLI on Monday, May 18, 2020. He comes to us from the National Center for State Courts (NCSC) where he oversaw the implementation of the Central America programs, including several initiatives on juvenile justice, youth empowerment, juvenile restorative justice and youth alternative sentencing. He previously worked for ABA ROLI’s Latin America and Caribbean Division as the Senior Program Officer. Francisco served as visiting professional at the International Criminal Court (ICC), where he supported the investigation of international crimes in Darfur, Sudan, and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR), where he supported the Court’s legal team on the cases against Brazil and Mexico. Francisco also served as a legal assistant for the Permanent Mission of Brazil to the United Nations in Geneva, where he mainly interacted with the UN Human Rights Council, and worked at Ashoka, Innovators for the Public, revamping their Rule of Law Program. He holds an LL.M. in international and comparative law from The George Washington University Law School, with additional studies in human rights law from Oxford University. Originally from Brazil, he obtained his B.A. in law from Faculdades Metropolitanas Unidas in São Paulo. Francisco is a native Portuguese speaker and is fluent in English and Spanish.
