The American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) opened its first Kazakhstan office in 1993 and has since worked with lawyers, law students, judges, and citizens across the country to advance the rule of law.
From 2020-2024, ABA ROLI implemented the Kazakhstan Rule of Law Program (KRLP), which aimed to develop the legal climate for businesses to increase confidence and international investment in Kazakhstan, improve the legal framework for civil society organizations, and assist in the modernization of the judiciary to eliminate real and perceived biases. This program worked with the Kazakhstan Supreme Court, the Academy of Justice under the Supreme Court, Union of Judges, Ministry of Information and Social Development, Ministry of Finance, the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs (“Atameken”), and civil society organizations. The program was funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
