The ABA Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) received funding from the U.S. Department of State’s Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons to implement anti-human trafficking program in Uganda. From October 2011 to December 2012, ABA ROLI worked with national and local governmental and civil society partners to organize a task force that created protocols for a coordinated response to human trafficking. From 2005–2006, ABA ROLI conducted a program that supported the legal drafting and passage of Uganda’s first anti-human trafficking law, the Prevention of Trafficking in Persons Act. ABA ROLI provided technical assistance to a multi-stakeholder working group that drafted the law. This law was formally adopted in 2009 and ABA ROLI’s subsequent program worked towards its implementation.
