From 2006-2008, the ABA Rule of Law Initiative implemented the USAID/Nigeria’s Anti-Trafficking in Persons (TIP) program. The primary objectives of the two-year program were to help build the anti-TIP capacity of law enforcement agencies and to help provide support to traffic victims.

To achieve these goals, the Nigeria office worked in cooperation with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons (NAPTIP), the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Immigration Service, the National Judicial Institute, and local NGOs in a wide range of programs including:

  1. Providing anti-TIP training for prosecutors, ,judges, police officers, and immigration officers.
  2. Developing anti-TIP curriculum materials for the police and immigration training institutions.
  3. Providing training for counselors at NAPTIP shelters in counseling skills, trauma and post-traumatic stress management
  4. Providing logistical support to the NAPTIP Shelter in Lagos
