Safeguarding at the ABA Center for Global Programs: Our Policies and How to Report a Concern

The American Bar Association, Center for Global Programs (ABA CGP) is committed to protecting the people and the communities we work in from harm, whether carried out by our representatives or those we work with. As such the ABA CGP has a zero-tolerance policy towards exploitation, sexual exploitation, sexual abuse, sexual harassment, and child abuse. This means that ABA CGP will address every report of such misconduct rigorously, fairly, and in a survivor-centered manner.

The ABA CGP’s Safeguarding Policy to Protect Participants and Communities from Exploitation, Sexual Exploitation, Sexual Abuse, Sexual Harassment, and Child Abuse (“Safeguarding Policy”) and the accompanying Code of Conduct provides the framework for ABA CGP employees, contractors, vendors, volunteers, and implementing partners’ responsibilities to prevent and respond to misconduct.

Reporting a Safeguarding Incident to the ABA

Anyone can report a safeguarding incident to the ABA through the ABA Ethics Line, a platform operated by a third independent party that allows anyone to confidentially and anonymously make a report or ask a question about conduct or situations that may raise any ethical issues, involve a violation of the ABA’s Business Conduct Standards (“BCS”) or the ABA CGP Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct.

The ABA Ethics Line offers three options for you to confidentially or anonymously report issues 24-hours a day, seven days a week, and in your preferred language:

  • Online: Independently report issues online. Options are available to display the report form in your preferred language.

  • By Phone:
    • Within the United States: Call toll free 1-800-461-9330.
    • Outside the United States: International dialing instructions by country are listed on the ABA Ethics Line website and can be displayed in your preferred language.
  • SMS Text: Reports can also be sent via text to +1 (872) 276-9794.

If your country is not listed, you can place a collect call to +1-720-514-4400 to report the issue with the help of a language interpreter.  Our independent third-party platform supports more than 300+ languages.

Once your report has been submitted, it will be immediately forwarded to the appropriate individuals within the ABA for review.

If you prefer to report an incident in-person, you can report an incident to any ABA staff member. ABA CGP has staff that are trained on how to report incidents and walk you through the steps of reporting.
