In 2018, with support from the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI), the National Youth Services Council launched a workshop designed to put more than 110 youth representing all 26 districts and nine provinces of Sri Lanka at the center of anti-corruption efforts and to amplify their voices as catalysts for change. Through the program, Empowering Youth to Fight Corruption in Sri Lanka, ABA ROLI facilitated a youth-led workshop where youth leaders took center stage in broadening their peers’ views on good governance and integrity, supporting youth agency to demand accountability, and exchanging practical ideas on how to monitor, report, and prevent corruption in Sri Lanka. Youth participants called for actions in areas such as improving integrity in government service divisional secretariats, preventing bribery and corruption in schools and universities, and promoting integrity in law enforcement, among other issues.
