ABA ROLI Hosts Fifth Roundtable Discussion under its APROE Program on Increasing Effectiveness and Mitigating Risks in Anti-Corruption Assistance and Diplomacy

As part of the Anti-Corruption Policy and Research Outreach and Engagement (APROE) Program, the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) in conjunction with U.S. Department of State, Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) and  the UNCAC Coalition hosted a virtual Roundtable event on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 from 9:30 AM-11:00 AM (Eastern Time (US & Canada) focusing on “Increasing Effectiveness and Mitigating Risks in Anti-Corruption Assistance and Diplomacy.”

The event was part of the INL-funded Anti-Corruption Policy and Research, Outreach and Engagement (APROE) program, which facilitates dialogue on current activities under the United States Strategy on Countering Corruption, published in December 2021.

The discussions highlighted Pillar Five of the Biden-Harris Administration’s United States Strategy on Countering Corruption, published in December 2021. Pillar Five of the Strategy speaks to Improving Diplomatic Engagement and Leveraging Foreign Assistance Resources.

The roundtable brought together speakers from various branches of the United States government, civil society, and the World Bank Group and the conversation focused on the U.S. government’s work with partner governments through diplomacy and public sector efforts in development projects to mitigate corruption.

Opening remarks were given by Robert Leventhal, Division Chief, Global Policy and Programs, U.S. Department of State Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs and the discussion was moderated by Brendan Boundy, Deputy and Senior Advisor, Coordinator on Global Anti-Corruption, U.S. Department of State.

The speakers included representatives from the U.S. Agency for International Development; U.S. Department of State Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor; the Federal Bureau of Investigations, International Corruption Unit; Anna Pinto Herbert, Operations Officer, Integrity Vice Presidency, World Bank Group; and Cheri-Leigh Erasmus, Co-CEO and Chief Learning and Agility Officer, Accountability Lab.
