On August 22, Francisco Ciampolini, Regional Director for ABA ROLI’s Latin America and the Caribbean Division (above, sixth from left), conducted a series of outreach meetings in Belém, Pará, Brazil to kick off ABA ROLI’s new program Combatting Forced Labor in Pará.
Support by the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons, US Department of State, this is ABA’s first program solely focusing on Brazil and is in partnership with the Pan-American Development Foundation (PADF). The program is focused on the cattle industry, where there is a high average of labor trafficking victims, often concentrated in rural areas in Pará state, according to official statistics.
