ABA Staff Diversity Council

The American Bar Association has four core goals. Goal III is to eliminate bias and enhance diversity and inclusion in the Association, legal profession, and justice system.

ABA World Day 2019

In 2011, a grassroots campaign ‘Do One Thing for Diversity and Inclusion’, celebrating the annual World Day for Cultural Diversity was launched by UNESCO and the UN Alliance of Civilizations. In 2011, ABA Executive Director Jack Rives appointed a Staff Task Force on Diversity and Inclusion charged with developing action steps that would complement the ABA Member Diversity Plan. The Task Force engaged in extensive research and gathered input from staff, which led to creation of the Staff Diversity Report and Plan (Plan) in 2012. Executive Director Rives then appointed the ABA Staff Diversity Council (composed of staff in ABA’s DC and Chicago Offices) to keep a focus on implementing the Plan. The Council accomplishes these objectives through the development, evaluation, and execution of activities, programs, and special projects that promote full and equal participation of all staff persons in the Association.
