In 2011, ABA Executive Director Jack Rives appointed a Staff Task Force on Diversity and Inclusion charged with developing action steps that would complement the ABA Member Diversity Plan. The Task Force engaged in extensive research and gathered input from staff, which led to creation of the Staff Diversity Report and Plan (Plan) in 2012. Executive Director Rives then appointed the ABA Staff Diversity Council (composed of staff in ABA’s DC and Chicago Offices) to keep a focus on implementing the Plan. The Council accomplishes these objectives through the development, evaluation, and execution of activities, programs, and special projects that promote full and equal participation of all staff persons in the Association.
