The ABA Rule of Law Initiative is a public service project of the American Bar Association dedicated to promoting rule of law around the world. The ABA Rule of Law Initiative believes that rule of law promotion is the most effective long-term antidote to the pressing problems facing the world community today, including poverty, economic stagnation, and conflict.

Vietnamese Bar Leaders Gain Insights During Chinese Study Tour
	With their eyes on the future of the legal profession in their own country, a Vietnamese study group spent a week in China visiting national and local bar associations, justice authorities, law firms, legal aid centers and courts. The ABA Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) worked with the All China Lawyers Association (ACLA) to arrange the September study tour in anticipation of the 2009 inauguration of Vietnam’s first national bar association. Technology Connects and Empowers Attorneys in Tajikistan Easy access to legal information is not always a given, but advocates in Tajikistan are now one step closer thanks to an innovative ABA ROLI program that connects the country’s three main collegia (bar associations) with research assistance and database and Internet connections. New York Times Cites ABA ROLI’s Support of DRC’s Rape Survivors The ABA Rule of Law Initiative’s (ABA ROLI) program in the Democratic Republic of Congo was mentioned in an October 17 New York Times article. The piece, which was posted on the homepage and was among the most e-mailed stories over several days, detailed the horrific rape crisis in DRC and the challenges in bringing perpetrators to justice.
