Zeidner, a 3L at the Earle Mack School of Law at Drexel University, has two topics of immediate concern as he starts his new role: the ten-year review of the ABA’s law school accreditation standards and the Task Force on the Future of Legal Education’s resolutions.
“I plan to carefully analyze any related issues, solicit the input of law students, and emphatically promote the interest of Law Student Division members,” said Zeidner. He also intends to vigorously support any programs the Division members hope to create.
Additionally, two more weighty issues affecting law students include the cost of a legal education and the amount of time necessary to obtain a Juris Doctor. These are issues that Perez, a 3L at George Washington University Law School, plans to work on. Perez said that as a Division Delegate he will be in a good position to articulate student needs and has the knowledge to speak on issues like these affecting students.
“Those are issues I care deeply about because they affect students across the country and influence the future of the legal profession,” said Perez. “I am confident I can effectively advocate on behalf of students because I have done it before. I care about improving the experience of others. There are issues that seriously affect law students today, and it is important that the Division have a strong voice at the table.”
Gennawey, a 3L at Chapman University School of Law, also said practical experience is key when it comes to increasing the law students’ marketability.
“[The other Delegates and I] believe experiential learning is the best way to prepare our students for the office,” Gennawey said. “However, any resolution that passes the ABA House of Delegates on this matter must allow students to choose the form of experiential learning that best suits their professional goals beyond law school, and does not force students to purchase credit hours beyond their current course load.” n
