ABA Law Student Division Seeks Award Nominations
The ABA Law Student Division recognizes the achievements of individual students and schools through its annual Awards Program. This year’s awards will be announced and presented on Saturday, August 4, 2012, at the Division’s Assembly during the ABA Annual Meeting in Chicago.
Further details about each award and applications are available online. Entries must be accompanied by the required supplemental material and postmarked no later than April 1, 2012.
Student Bar Association Award
Recognizes a student bar association’s efforts to create a better environment for law students and a positive image of the legal profession. Criteria include overall organization and structure, type and quality of programs offered, interaction with faculty and administration, extent to which student government addresses concerns of students, and interaction with the local community.
Law School Newspaper Award
Recognizes outstanding law school newspapers. Open to all law school newspapers sponsored or published by student-run organizations at ABA-approved law schools. Criteria for newspaper entries include staffing, equipment, technology used, organization, length of existence, budget, and frequency of publication.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Award
The VITA Award recognizes outstanding law school VITA programs for undertaking the cause of assisting individuals in need with their income tax returns.
Judy M. Weightman Memorial Public Interest Award
Recognizes excellence in law school public service projects, public interest programming, and commitment to community service.
Membership and Activity Award
Recognizes outstanding membership efforts, involvement, and activity of ABA-approved law schools in the ABA Law Student Division.
Henry J. Ramsey Jr. Diversity Award
Recognizes excellence in activities that promote diversity in legal education and the legal profession, including full and equal participation by students of diverse race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, and sexual orientation.
