Don’t want to do the work of a full challenge? At most Section of Taxation meetings, students attend for free or at a reduced rate. These meetings provide a great chance to network and learn more about specialized areas of tax.
Want to hear about more upcoming events? Join the ABA Section of Taxation and you will receive periodic updates. Additionally, there are several member listservs full of experienced lawyers offering advice to those new in practice. Not only do you learn a lot, but you can really see how friendly the section is as a whole.
The ABA Section of Taxation also has some great information online, including: TaxTips4U; Tax Basics for 501(c)(3)s; Charitable Giving; Disaster Losses; and general safety rules, tax preparer scams, and record retention policies.
Finally, for upcoming 3Ls and recent graduates, the Section of Taxation offers a two-year public service fellowship. This fellowship funds lawyers to work with underserved populations and help them with their tax issues. Past winners have started tax advocacy clinics and low-income taxpayer clinics to help some of the most vulnerable taxpayers.
