Thomas W. Mitchell, a professor at the University of Wisconsin Law School, is one of 10 professors in the United States to receive a cash award of $25,000 from the Elizabeth Hurlock Beckman Award Trust in 2013. The award is given to professors who inspired their former students to achieve greatness. Mitchell, along with the nine other 2013 Beckman Trust Recipients, was honored Saturday, November 9, at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum in Atlanta.
In the first of three programs, Erica Levine Powers and Beth E. Kinne, editors of and contributors to the Section’s just-published book, Beyond the Fracking Wars: A Guide for Lawyers, Public Officials, Planners and Citizens, discussed the book on The Capitol Pressroom, a daily program of New York public radio, on November 15, 2013. Powers and Mark K. Boling, President, V+ Solutions, a division of Southwestern Energy, were interviewed on December 20, 2013, on the topic of best practices. Powers and Kinne will return on January 17, 2014, to discuss water quality and quantity and clean air issues. The Capitol Pressroom, hosted by Susan Arbetter, is broadcast live from the state capitol in Albany on WCNY-FM, the public radio station in Syracuse, New York.
