A number of interesting cases make the upcoming Term one to follow for local government lawyers.
Dog-Sniff Cases
In a duo of dog-sniff cases, the U.S. Supreme Court will consider, first, whether an alert by a trained narcotics detection dog is sufficient to establish probable cause for the warrantless search of a vehicle, and second, whether a drug-dog’s sniff at the front door of a residence, a suspected marijuana “grow house,” is a Fourth Amendment search requiring probable cause.
