Local Government and the First Amendment at the Supreme Court: Legislative Voting as "Speech" and Union Grievances as "Petitions"

The U.S. Supreme Court decided two First Amendment Cases this Term of interest to attorneys practicing state and local government law -- Nevada Comm'n on Ethics v. Carrigan and Borough of Duryea v. Guarnieri.

Here's a look at the Supreme Court's recent decisions of interest to local government lawyers.

As we end this year and begin a new one in our Section, I arrive as Chair with much gratitude for our (very!) outgoing Chair, Dwight H. Merriam.
