Kimberly Rice is a third-year law student at California Western School of Law in San Diego, CA. It’s a digital union meant to last: the merging of mobile devices and social networking sites. This bond has triggered a revolution in hiring practices. But there are both legal ramifications and personal ones, such as “If my potential employer only hires people whose network ‘profiles’ she can review, and I don’t have one, where does that leave me? Must I now create a profile and ‘network’?” “Must I change my privacy settings?” The personal and legal issues swirling around social media hiring are proliferating.
