On March 25, 2010, the Project held a special event in Washington, DC at Sidley Austin LLP to discuss opportunities for volunteer attorneys to represent prisoners on Death Row without counsel.
The Project is seeking counsel for “RG,” an unrepresented Texas Death Row prisoner in his federal habeas proceedings. RG’s case has received extremely brief consideration by the Texas courts. It is highly unlikely that this is because there are no meritorious issues in the case, but because he has been represented by lackluster counsel who did little or no investigation into the case or RG’s background. The need for volunteer counsel who can conduct a thorough investigation is extremely urgent and work should begin immediately.
