Mandating Civility: Wisdom or Folly?

Vol. 22 No. 2

By

Mary T. Robinson is the principal in Robinson Law Group, LLC in Chicago, IL. She is the former Administrator of the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission of the Illinois Supreme Court. Her firm represents lawyers in disciplinary cases and provides consulting and expert witness services on ethical concerns.

We asked why lawyers had become so rude, insulting, excessively aggressive, even vulgar, and we sought out remedies. We developed aspirational codes and asked for commitments to follow their tenets.
