Don’t Miss This Opportunity! Join Us in Boston September 30–October 2, 2004

The ABA Sections of Real Property Probate and Trust Law and Taxation will co-sponsor a Joint Fall CLE Meeting from September 30 through October 2, 2004, at the Sheraton in Boston, Massachusetts.

Instead of conducting our CLE at the ABA Annual Meeting, we have decided to move our fall CLE to Boston and meet with the Section of Taxation.

We are very excited about this meeting and the opportunity it presents to enhance CLE for Section members who share many common legal interests. Join us and take advantage of networking with the country’s leading attorneys and government officials to discuss the latest initiatives, regulations, legislative forecasts, and planning ideas.

The meeting will include stand-alone real property and probate and trust law CLE as well as joint programming with the Section of Taxation.

Watch for details at www.abanet.org/rppt/2004.

Join a Section Committee

Committee activity provides much of the basis for our high quality educational programs and articles in our publications, Probate & Property magazine and the Real Property, Probate and Trust Journal. Some of our committees work on legislative issues on the national as well as the state level. Some committees are small working groups; others are large and accept members on an informational basis. The Section has over 100 committees involving over 3,000 members of the Section.

To sign up for a committee please visit our web site or contact Laura Lode at (312) 988-5651. For the complete Guide to Committees, with committee descriptions, please visit our web site at www.abanet.org/rppt.

This issue’s committee highlights:

Real Property Division—I-5 Legal Opinions in Real Estate Transactions

This committee is involved with all aspects of legal opinions in real estate transactions. The committee conducted a number of current and past projects to assist the real estate bar in opinion practice. Its most recent effort involved a joint project with the ACREL Legal Opinions Committee to develop guidelines for rendering legal opinions in real estate transactions. Two other significant accomplishments of the committee are the Inclusive Real Estate Secured Transaction Opinion and the Report on Adaptation of the Legal Opinion Accord of the Section of Business Law of the American Bar Association for Real Estate Secured Transactions.
