The Fair Housing Act, 42 U.S.C. §§ 3601 et seq., one of the nation's premier civil rights laws, prohibits discrimination in the rental or sale of housing based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, familial status or disability. The law requires that new multifamily units be accessible to the disabled. Failure to design and construct units so that they are accessible constitutes discrimination against the disabled.
