A project of the Section’s Standing Committee on Membership

Gwendolyn C. Allen

Gwen is the manager and an owner of Central Colorado Title & Escrow and is a principal of Allen & Eakins Law, LLC. Until 2012, she was a partner in Ballard Spahr, LLP’s Denver office, practicing there for 13 years as a member of the firm’s Real Estate Finance, Resort and Hotel, Planned Communities and Condominiums, and Real Estate Development Groups. Gwen continues to counsel developers, owners, and lenders in real estate transactions and now also uses her expertise as a title producer and settlement agent.

The RPTE Section has proven to be a wonderful resource for Gwen. As a young associate, she was able to take advantage of opportunities for leadership positions and speaking engagements. The Section is home to leaders in the legal profession who have been true mentors for Gwen and have helped her to develop the skills and confidence necessary for success. The network of friends and mentors Gwen found through the Section, invaluable in its own right, is now also a major source of her clients and referral sources. In addition, the substantive training, education, and publications available through the Section provide valuable practice pointers and are critical to maintaining her expertise.

Gwen is an active participant of RPTE, as chair of the Membership Committee, vice-chair of Real Estate Programming for the Continuing Legal Education Committee, a member of the Planning Committee, appointee to the Real Property Government Submissions Task Force, a member of the Real Estate Finance Group and of the Hospitality, Timesharing, and Common Interest Development Group, and the former chair of the Hotels, Resorts and Tourism Committee.

She is a graduate of the University of Kansas and the University of Kansas School of Law.

Gwen and her husband and law partner, Brett Eakins, live in Salida, Colorado, with their two year old daughter, Esme, and their dog, Lola. They are actively involved in their community and enjoy the outdoor activities that the upper Arkansas River valley and the Rocky Mountains have to offer.

Joseph P. TylutkiJoseph P. Tylutki

Joe is senior counsel in the Corporate Legal Group of McDonald’s Corporation and provides full-time legal support to Ronald McDonald House Charities, Inc., and its local chapters around the world serving as the general counsel. RMHC and its cornerstone program, the Ronald McDonald House, provide temporary lodging to families of ill children seeking medical attention. RMHC and its chapters and programs in 57 countries serve over 5.5 million children and families annually.

In this role, Joe provides guidance on myriad corporate governance issues, evaluates program operations, helps to assess and mitigate risk, responds to actual, threatened, or anticipated litigation, reviews creative material for compliance with established trademark standards, manages intellectual property concerns, and serves as the principal investigator for compliance matters.

Before joining McDonald’s in May 2006, Joe was the vice-president, Risk Management and Legal Affairs, and staff attorney for the American Heart Association’s Greater Midwest Affiliate in Chicago. In addition to corporate law functions, Joe managed bequest and probate files totaling approximately $18 million per year in 20 states.

Joe joined RPTE shortly after graduating from law school because RPTE dealt closely with the trust and estate work he was doing and it also provided opportunities to keep up with developments in charitable giving and other necessary skills. He was introduced to a larger role within RPTE when he was asked to join the Special Committee on In-House Counsel in 2007, which he currently co-chairs. Joe also serves as the vice-chair of Charitable Organizations Committee.

Joe earned his J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2000 and his MBA from the University of Michigan in 2009. He is presently working on his LL.M. in Taxation at Chicago-Kent College of Law.

Joe resides in the western suburbs of Chicago with his wife and daughter and enjoys travelling, reading, and spending time with his family.
