My younger brother Mike and I do not share the same politics. At a recent family reunion, we called a truce on discussing all things political. It lasted about five minutes. Put two opinionated siblings in a room together and a dispute is inevitable, even when their mother adamantly attempts to change the topic to baseball or the weather. While the exchanges are frequently less than fun, they’re often enlightening. As much as I hate to admit it, my little brother occasionally has a good point.
During our last battle of “whose policies are more likely to ruin our country,” we got on the subject of government inefficiency. My brother, the businessman, likes to rail against the wastefulness of government. The companies he has worked for have all been understaffed and forced to work with extraordinarily tight budgets. In his world, it’s keep costs down and move fast or die. Any other way of working is foreign and wrong to him.
