Law Practice Magazine | May/June 2014 | The Marketing IssueWHERE CAN YOU READ the best advice about using your iPad to practice law, becoming more productive with Microsoft Office or handling your firm’s finances? The ABA Law Practice Division’s (LP) renowned publishing program offers more than 120 books on legal technology, marketing, management and finance that will help elevate your practice. Book discounts on LP titles are one of the many benefits offered to LP members, so don’t forget to stock up for less when you are shopping for new reading material.

LP is proud to publish best-selling titles such as The 2014 Solo and Small Firm Legal Technology Guide, The Lawyer’s Guide to Microsoft Outlook 2013, iPad in One Hour for Lawyers (Third Ed.), Adobe Acrobat in One Hour for Lawyers, QuickBooks in One Hour for Lawyers and many more. In fact, LP Publishing is responsible for producing the highest-selling book ever produced by the ABA: How to Start and Build a Law Practice (Fifth Ed.), by Jay G. Foonberg.

For those who prefer e-books, LP books are available in e-book format for your favorite e-reader. To read e-books on your iPad or iPhone, visit the iBooks app and search for the book title to purchase the e-book in seconds. E-books can be purchased for other devices at the ABA Web Store (shopABA.org).

Chaired by Tom Mighell and supported by a dozen committed volunteers, the LP Publishing Board is responsible for vetting book proposals, discovering new authors, brainstorming book ideas, peer reviewing manuscripts and serving as project managers throughout the book production cycle. The LP publishing program is dependent on the hard work of the publishing board to ensure that our books are produced with the highest editorial standards, and we are deeply grateful for its work and its lasting contributions to the legacy of LP.

LP is always seeking new authors to write books that will interest and inform our members and the legal profession as a whole. If you have a book idea related to law office technology, marketing, management or finance, please visit americanbar.org/groups/law_practice/publications to download a proposal form. Completed book proposals should be submitted to Denise Constantine at Denise.Constantine@americanbar.org and will be reviewed by the publishing board at an upcoming meeting.

For news about new and upcoming book releases, sales, author events and free book excerpts, please follow LP on social media. LP has lively pages on Facebook and LinkedIn and can be found on Twitter at @lawpracticetips. Additionally, publishing news is posted frequently on the Law Technology Today blog (lawtechnologytoday.org).

If you are considering a book purchase of more than 10 copies, discounts are available. Please contact Lindsay Dawson at Lindsay.Dawson@americanbar.org for a custom quote to meet your needs.
