The Director's Desk

With September, we begin to say farewell to summer and welcome to autumn. Just like this transition in seasons, it’s a time of change for the LPM Section as we prepare for the new ABA bar year and welcome new leaders and volunteers to our hardworking boards and committees. I’m excited about the milestone events and new initiatives we’ll be working on in the coming year, all aimed at providing LPM members with the resources you need to thrive.

One of our goals this year is to help LPM members take full advantage of all the excellent benefits that come with membership. For example, one of our newest projects is a resources page on our Web site dedicated to serving our solo practice members, at www.lawpractice.org/solo . Being a solo practitioner can be challenging, and LPM will continue to explore new resources for solos, as well as for all of our other members and friends.

A year of milestone celebrations. In 2010 and 2011, the Section is celebrating big anniversaries for some of our longest running institutions.

In October, ABA Women Rainmakers continues its 20th anniversary celebration at the ABA Women Rainmakers Mid-Career Workshop in Washington, D.C. ABA Women Rainmakers is LPM’s vital, ever-growing network of legal professionals dedicated to educating, mentoring and networking with women lawyers to help them develop business. (Learn more at www.womenrainmakers.org/workshop.) The Workshop will be held in conjunction with the LPM Fall Meeting and the annual meeting of the College of Law Practice Management, so it will be quite a week in D.C. Find the details at www.lawpractice.org/fall, and if you haven’t registered yet, be sure to do so!

ABA TECHSHOW ® celebrates its 25th anniversary in April 2011. Considered by many experts to be the best legal CLE technology conference and EXPO without fail, ABA TECHSHOW’s programming continues to wow audiences. If you’ve never attended, then this is the year not to miss. If you’ve attended in the past, we can’t wait to welcome you back in 2011. Watch for details at www.techshow.com.

Ready to do more for you. All of us at LPM are here to help you. Do you enjoy something we provide? Help us make it even better. Would you like to see something we do not offer? Please get in touch with any of our hardworking, professional staff members to let us know your thoughts. You’ll find contact details for LPM staff at www.lawpractice.org/contact. We’re eager to partner with you for another promising LPM year!

Pam McDevitt is Director of the ABA Law Practice Management Section in Chicago.
