Case Management System Adds Advanced Analytics, Document Translation and Video Transcript Editing
Merrill Corporation’s newly released Lextranet 5.9 includes features designed to speed document reviews and reduce discovery costs by analyzing and organizing documents around key terms, concepts and information flows. The new visual clustering feature, which creates a logical "map" of data by segmenting it into logical clusters, graphically identifies relationships between keywords, documents and custodians. A new e-mail threading feature automatically captures complete e-mail threads and ensures that they are coded uniformly. This helps identify missing e-mail documents and protect against the accidental disclosure of privileged information. In addition, non-English language translation is now automatically integrated into document review, and with the new video deposition editing and sharing feature, users easily create clips from video depositions. Clips are accompanied by corresponding transcript excerpts, which are automatically synched to the video clip during playback. These new tools allow easier collaborative review of video assets.

Access Legal Research Tools from Microsoft Office Apps
Lexis has announced that this spring it will launch Lexis for Microsoft Office 2007, enabling legal professionals to access LexisNexis content and tools while working directly within the Office applications used every day: Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word. Lexis for Microsoft Office will offer a much more efficient way to conduct legal research and draft documents by eliminating unnecessary steps and integrating links to LexisNexis content and tools. For example, users can analyze e-mail texts or Word documents and access relevant content from LexisNexis, the Web or within the firm, all directly from within Outlook or Word. Key features include Search—a single search box that delivers one-click access to the vast collection of legal content from LexisNexis, the open Web and the user’s internal company information database. Background, another key feature, provides information on entities mentioned in the text of a Word document or Outlook message. This feature automatically indexes the document with hyperlinks to relevant information across all sources. It will also display full Shepard’s reports and apply Shepard’s Signal indicators directly to the cases cited within the text of the document. Full-text versions of case law within an e-mail message or Word document can also be accessed directly within the Microsoft software application.
