NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS. It’s just about time to give 2008 a farewell kick in the pants. But once the party ends and the last of the confetti is swept away, then what? It’ll be time to deal with the sobering reality of the coming year. Traditional indulgences, it’s safe to assume in today’s economy, will lose their allure and resolutions for most will look a bit different, too. (Think “resolve to get more out of my old car” rather than, say, “get lasik surgery.”) So, in keeping with the theme of getting the most from what you’ve got, the editors of Law Practice recommend indulging your curious mind with a little learning. To that end, we offer a sampling of the LPM Section’s best bets for the coming year. Plug the dates on this page into your calendar, and resolve to be even more brilliant and better prepared for 2009.
In January, LPM is launching a forms bank at www.lawpracticeforms.com, where you’ll be able to download the best forms and templates from the Section’s extensive library of practice management books for a nominal fee.
ABA LAW FIRM MARKETING STRATEGIES CONFERENCE. Learn how to differentiate your firm and move ahead with your marketing at this comprehensive program, November 12-13 in Philadelphia. Watch for details on the Web Site.
NEW AT ABA TECHSHOW
TECHNOLOGY WORKOUT TIME. In April, ABA TECHSHOW® 2009 will pull out all the stops with more than 50 programs and 15 topical tracks to help you get a grip on your technology. What’s new this year? For one, legal technologist and author Richard Susskind is this year’s keynote speaker. He is chair of the U.K.’s Advisory Panel on Public Sector Information and has been IT adviser to the Lord Chief Justice of England. The most buzzed about development, though, is the new one-day E-Discovery Boot Camp, which will teach the nuts and bolts of ediscovery planning, review and production. Other track topics include creating a virtual office, solo/small firm and large firm technology, Macs for lawyers, and enterprise IT. In addition, the expo hall will feature more than100 technology vendors. Plan to attend April 2–4, 2009, at the Hilton Chicago, and check out the sessions, speakers and new flexible registration on the TECHSHOW Web site.
