Ways To Boost Your Business Development In 2008
NEWS from the Law Practice Management Section.
Happy New Year! It’s time to look ahead and put those resolutions into effect. The Law Practice Management Section has committed to a few resolutions, including continuing to increase membership value and satisfaction, planning more high-quality programs, rededicating ourselves to our commitment to member service and producing the best ABA TECHSHOW® ever!
Plan now for upcoming Section meetings. The ABA LPM Midyear Meeting will be held in Los Angeles February 8-10 with the InterContinental Century City as the LPM Section headquarters hotel. Registration is free, and complete information about LPM activities is available online. Highlights will include the Section Gathering Reception and a special ABA Women Rainmakers program focused on the entertainment field. The LPMSpring Meeting is scheduled for May 14-17, 2008, at the Hotel Santa Fe in Santa Fe, New Mexico. And, of course, the annual ABA TECHSHOW is scheduled for March 13-15, 2008, in Chicago. Mark your calendar now for these educational and networking opportunities.
Third Thursday teleconferences. LPM continues its popular Third Thursday audio CLE teleconferences in January and February with two fantastic programs. On Thursday, January 17, LPM presents Seven Technology Must-Haves for Superlative Client Service, with ABA TECHSHOW presenters Laura Calloway, Debbie Foster and Nerino Petro, Jr. In February only, we shift to the second Thursday of the month and on February 14 present Maintaining Professional Liability Insurance: How to Best Protect Your Practice. The presenters are Jill Arnold, Paul Douglas, Edith Matthai, David Paige and Marian Rice.
New sessions and social events at ABA TECHSHOW. Speaking of successful, high-quality programming, ABA TECHSHOW 2008—the profession’s leading legal technology conference and expo—is rapidly approaching! The Hilton Chicago is the new location, and we hope that you will join us. The conference, which takes place March 13-15, will offer 16 exciting tracks with over 50 educational sessions. New tracks this year include a Mac Track, Client Relationships, Going Green, Large Firm/Corporate Counsel and The Paperless Office. (Visit the TECHSHOW website for the complete schedule.)
On the social front, new this year is ABA TECHSHOW After Dark—a social gala with a live band, terrific food and spectacular door prizes. In addition, the first James I. Keane Award for excellence in e-lawyering will be presented at Friday’s luncheon.
Back by popular demand is a Solo/Small Firm Day, with two educational tracks on Friday, March 14. Eight sessions of special programming will cover such topics as drafting bills, digital dictation, technology must-haves and moving beyond Outlook.
Other ABA TECHSHOW 2008 highlights include the Expo Hall (with more than 100 vendor booths) and the popular Passport to Prizes. To learn more and to register, visit www.techshow.com and turn to pages 3-5 and 16-17 of this issue for further details—including information on early-bird registration discounts for those who register before February 1.
LPM Forums offer a new online discussion tool. LPM recently launched a new resource tool, offering members a chance to post questions and responses using a Web discussion board. LPM Forums can be found through a link on the left-navigation bar of the LPM home page at www.lawpractice.org. Participants are able to read discussions posted by others concerning an array of topics that fall under the four practice core areas—marketing, management, technology and finance. If you have a question that you need answered or you want to share your knowledge on a particular subject, please take advantage of these online forums!
