Aloha! As the Law Practice Management Section prepares to welcome you and join other colleagues at the ABA Annual Meeting in Honolulu, Section leaders and staff continue to produce a full slate of publications and programs throughout the summer. In addition to the CLE and networking programs planned for Honolulu, LPM will publish eight books this summer and offer its popular continuing CLE teleconference series.

Join LPM in Honolulu

This year's ABA/LPM Annual Meeting in Honolulu (August 3-8) promises to be an enjoyable one. What better place to meet than in paradise itself? LPM will host committee meetings and a hospitality suite at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. In addition, LPM will present five CLE programs, listed below, at the Presidential CLE Centre. This includes special programs presented by the LPM-sponsored ABA

Women Rainmakers.

  • Technology for the Rest of Us
  • Negotiating Difference: Approaching Gender and Culture in Negotiation (hosted by ABA Women Rainmakers)
  • Marketing by Associates Can Increase the Bottom Line While Training Your Future Leaders
  • Practical Integration of Legal Technology Today
  • Best (and Most Ethical) Practices for Electronic Evidence

Social events include a networking reception, hosted by the ABA Women Rainmakers immediately following its CLE program on Friday, August 4. Later that evening, LPM will host its traditional Gathering Reception on the lawn at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. We will also host a daily Hospitality Suite at the Hilton (Iolani Suite III/IV, Tapa Conference Center), with snacks and beverages available at break times. For complete information and schedules, please visit www.lawpractice.org/ annual. For registration details and information about registering on-site, visit www.abanet.org/annual/2006.

More Convenient CLE Opportunities

In July and August LPM will present CLE teleconference programs on practice technology and practice marketing. Having trouble managing the e-mail your practice generates? Serve clients better by learning to be efficient with e-mail. On Thursday, July 20, LPM presents E-mail Overload:

Tips to Help You Work More Effectively, presented by experts from ABA TECHSHOW. Then, on Thursday, August 17, LPM addresses state bar advertising restrictions and lawyer marketing ethics in Did the Pit Bull Take a Bite Out of Bates ? An Ethics Discussion. LPM members receive substantial discounts on registration fees. Visit www.lawpractice.org/cle.shtml for complete details and to register online.

Learn More From the Four Practice Core Groups

To get the most out of your membership, it is important to become involved in LPM activities and meetings—and one of the best ways to do so is to join our practice core groups. Beginning this August, all LPM members will be invited to select one or more practice core groups—marketing, management, technology or finance—in which to become involved. Core groups meet four times a year, at the LPM Fall and Spring Meetings, and at the ABA Midyear and Annual Meetings. Discussions include current issues, resources for lawyers, future programming and more.

Members who do not select a core group will be assigned to one based on the information provided to the ABA. To join or learn more about the practice core groups, please visit www.lawpractice.org.

More Practical Information by E-mail

Did you know that LPM provides even more useful content by e-mail each month, and it's all included with your membership? Law Practice Today , LPM's popular Webzine, delivers a new edition at the start of each month, with topical articles on all aspects of the business of practicing law. Law Practice.news, our monthly newsletter, provides up-to-date information on LPM programs, publications and events. And, as new programs and publications become available, LPM members are provided with full details.

To update your e-mail address and preferences with the ABA, visit www.abanet.org and select "Member Login," or phone (800) 285-2221.
