|Put In Your Two Cents About Fees.|
ABA Commission on Billable Hours Survey.
Getting to the root of the fees question. If you have any interest in billable hours and their effect on your work and the profession, here is an opportunity for you. The American Bar Association has created a Presidential Commission, under the leadership of Robert Hirshon, to determine how the predominance of the billable hours system affects the profession. Law firm and in-house lawyers are encouraged to go to www.abanet.org/careercounsel/billable.html to fill out an electronic questionnaire on the subject. Upon submitting the questionnaire, respondees can provide narrative comments on the related Web board. Law students and lawyers in other workplaces are invited to submit comments as well. All comments will be posted as anonymous. If you would prefer to complete a hard-copy version of the questionnaire, contact Katy Englehart at Katy.Englehart@americanbar.org; (312) 988-5134.
The ABA Commission on Billable Hours will compile the information and incorporate it in its analysis during 2002. Join in. Help the Commission get to the root of the issues and work toward suggestions for alternative billing modes and, where appropriate, more sensible use of the billable hours system. Urge your colleagues to respond, too.
