2004 Section Nominating Committee Seeks Council Candidates
Section Chair Joan Kessler has appointed the 2004 Nominating Committee to recommend candidates for an open position on the current Council and all 2004-05 officer and Council positions. The current Council vacancy has resulted from Council member Jay Kanassatega's resignation from the Council in October. Jay's term expires in August 2004. Under the Section Bylaws, the Council may select someone to fill that seat. The Nominating Committee will be asked to recommend a candidate for the Council's consideration at its winter meeting, to be held on Feb. 6-7, 2004, in San Antonio, Tex., in conjunction with the ABA's 2004 Midyear Meeting.
All Section members in good standing as of six months preceding any given election are eligible for nomination for a Council position. For the current vacancy, "good standing" means having paid current year Section dues as of August 2003. Section members interested in being considered for this position should send resumes and statements of interest, including summaries of participation in/service to the Section, to Section Director Penny Wakefield at the Section's Washington, D. C. office by Friday, Dec. 19, 2003.
The Committee will select candidates for 2004-05 officer positions and four Council positions subsequent to the Midyear Meeting. Candidates for those positions must be members in good standing as of the 2004 Midyear Meeting. Any member interested in being considered for one of those positions similarly should provide a statement of interest and resume to the Section office by the end of March 2004.
Past Section Chair Bill Robinson of the University of the District of Columbia School of Law will chair the 2004 Nominating Committee. Other members are James E. Coleman, Jr., C. Elisia Frazier, Georgina C. Verdugo, and Rebecca Westerfield.
