From the ABA President: The Future of Legal Education

Vol. 43 No. 2

By

James R. Silkenat, a partner in the New York office of Sullivan & Worcester and a member of its Corporate Department, is president of the American Bar Association.

Now more than ever, the legal profession is a global endeavor. No one knows this more than the international legal practitioner. Those of us who spend our days immersed in international joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, and project finance transactions know that the international lawyers of the future need training that will serve them on a global scale.

Ensuring that U.S. law schools are ready to meet the evolving needs of a changing, globalized world is one of the reasons that the leadership of the American Bar Association established the Task Force on the Future of Legal Education to identify ways to revamp and revitalize our legal education system.
