A shift has occurred in the marketplace due to globalization of businesses and emerging markets. All types of organizations are striving to create diverse workforces. Despite the overwhelmingly positive shift in our interpretation of diversity, it does present some challenges.
What do we mean when we say we want “diversity”? Different demographics overseas mean the answer will not be the same abroad as it is in the United States.
How many times have you entered a room or a telephone conference to negotiate with attorneys and clients of several different nationalities from several different countries having different legal systems?
Although clumsily expressed, Mitt Romney’s request that his staff bring him “whole binders full of women” had a positive effect—it counteracted the fact that all the cabinet applications he received were from men. Anyone who called for such a binder for arbitral appointments would find it slim.
