Committee Highlight

Gaming Law Committee

This Committee acts as a liaison between GPSolo and the International Association of Gaming Attorneys (IAGA). One of its duties is to conduct symposiums on gaming law in connection with ABA-sanctioned meetings, including those held by individual state bar associations.

Co-Chairs Andrew Clark and P. Gregory Giordano’s primary committee goals are to contribute to the synergistic value of the Division and to promote interaction with other groups, organizations, and individuals in the gaming industry. They will strive to accomplish these goals in three ways:

Seeking publication opportunities for our members;

  1. Planning and executing ideas for industry-specific CLE’s programming; and
  2. Creating networking opportunities to encourage and facilitate the exchange of knowledge, business opportunities, and good will for the legal and gaming communities.

Ideas and contributions are encouraged. New Members are welcome to join the committee. For more information, be sure to visit the Committee’s webpage.

Member Spotlight

Sheryl L. Axelrod

The December 2013 spotlight is on diversity fellow Sheryl L. Axelrod of Philadelphia, PA. Sheryl’s first Division meeting was at the 2013 Fall Meeting in Lexington, KY. In addition to her fellowship and member of the Diversity Board, she is a member of the Awards Committee and Legal Educators Committee. She is eagerly involved in the works of the Division and is determined to have a successful year.

Sheryl’s Diversity Work

Two of Sheryl’s brothers are slow-learners. She has heard each of them called “retard” countless times, and has represented them in matters in which they sustained actionable discrimination.

She is also Jewish and, throughout her life, has encountered subtle and not-so-subtle forms of anti-Semitism. Despite facing discrimination throughout her life, Sheryl was surprised at the pervasive and entrenched discrimination and unconscious bias she has seen in the legal profession. She dedicates her volunteer efforts to expanding diversity, inclusion, and equality in the profession.

Sheryl is the Immediate Past President of the Temple Law Alumni Association (TLAA), the 4th female President in TLAA’s nearly 100 year history. During her term as president, she founded the TLAA: Women’s Initiative, Women’s Champion Award, women’s programming, Diversity Committee, Diversity Leadership Award, and programming for diverse attorneys.
