Division Name Change
The ABA General Practice, Solo and Small Firm Division has reshuffled its name. The ABA House of Delegates approved Resolution 11-3, which changes the ABA Constitution to reflect the Division’s new name to the ABA Solo, Small Firm and General Practice Division. A report to the ABA House of Delegates says changing the order of the names will clarify that the Division is the home for solo and small firm lawyers in the ABA. The change sends a clear message to the solo and small firm lawyer population (both within and outside the association) that the ABA, through the Division, is doing all it can to meet the needs of this under-represented population. Although the name has changed, GPSolo will continue to be used as the Division’s shortened name.
New Email Address and Web Access
Due to the Division’s name change to Solo, Small Firm and General Practice Division, we now have a new email address (email@example.com) and a new web URL (www.americanbar.org/gpsolo).

Virtual Brown Bag Session
Save the date for September 12! GPSolo’s Virtual Brown Bag Sessions are short, informal educational events on timely GPSolo topics organized by committees and held entirely by teleconference as a Division member benefit at no additional cost. The sessions are held monthly, normally last one hour, and are held during lunch hours. Due to the informal nature of the programs, and the fact that accompanying written materials may not always be prepared and distributed, the Division does not offer continuing legal education credits for these programs. For more information, visit our website.
Recordings of this program and others will be posted on the Division’s website after each session. Please click here to listen to or download the audio.
2012 Difference Makers Awards Program
GPSolo is pleased to announce a call for nominations for its annual Difference Makers Awards Program to recognize extraordinary lawyers who make a difference by breaking down barriers for women, people of color, and people with disabilities, regardless of sexual orientation. Applications are being accepted for Difference Makers Award, Making a Difference by Breaking Barriers, Making a Difference through Community Service, Making a Difference through Pro Bono Work, and Making a Difference through Service to the Profession.
These awards have been expanded to honor local attorneys whose dedication has made a difference to the profession or the community where the Division’s fall leadership meeting is held. However, the winners are not limited to only those in the local community. Rather than only recognizing solo and small firm lawyers or those working in the solo and small firm sections of local and state bars, these awards are intended for any size firm lawyers, educators, judges, and so forth who fulfill one of the following award categories.
Winners will be honored at the ABA GPSolo’s 2012 Fall Leadership Meeting and National Solo & Small Firm Conference Awards Program at the Westin Seattle in Seattle, Washington, on Friday, October 12, 2012. For more information review the 2012 Awards Summary and Instructions and complete the 2012 Awards Application. Remember to submit your nomination by August 31, 2012.
