GPSolo Bylaw Amendments Announcement

The ABA General Practice, Solo and Small Firm Division seeks approval from the membership to amend the Division bylaws at the ABA Annual Meeting in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on Saturday, August 6, 2011. The vote will be held at the Annual Meeting of the Division membership at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel. Please note that the revised bylaws were approved by the Division’s Council at the Spring Meeting in St. Louis, Missouri, on Saturday, May 14, 2011.

Over a number of years, the Division has made various changes to the bylaws on an “as needed” basis. The GPSolo Bylaws Committee decided to review the bylaws in their entirety, and this process provided an opportunity for an extensive review of Division policies and procedures. The Committee has ensured that the language in the bylaws was changed to be as clear and concise as possible to follow current policies and procedures.

A copy of the current bylaws, revised bylaws, and a summary of key changes and additions to the bylaws may be found on the Division’s website. Any questions or concerns should be e-mailed to genpractice@americanbar.org.

2011 GPSolo Fall Meeting and
National Solo & Small Firm Conference

October 20–22
Westin Tabor Center
Denver, Colorado

Mark your calendar now for the National Solo & Small Firm Conference (NSSFC), which will take place in conjunction with the ABA GPSolo Division’s Fall Meeting in Denver, Colorado. This year the schedule has been designed to ensure that all attendees can attend the sessions. The Division’s Fall Meeting will be held prior to the start of the NSSFC. The NSSFC attracts more than 200 solos and small firm practitioners annually from across the country and abroad. Attorneys attend this conference to expand their professional networks and pursue continuing legal education training. New to the 2011 conference will be a vendor track for lawyers to learn more about exciting products and services geared to improve their practice. And all sessions will be available via webcast and video recorded so that our additional 11,800 members may join us live or at a later date. Also, Sonia Nazario, a Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist, best-selling author, and leading advocate for immigrant children around the world, will attend, to inspire us with details of the Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) program and the critical issues now facing children caught in the immigration system. A training session will follow this plenary session, so attendees can learn how to join the pool of pro bono volunteers for KIND. More information may be found on the Division’s website.
