On 5/27/10, the Administration for Children and Families, Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), announced a request for public comment on a published computer matching program between the Office of Child Support Enforcement and state agencies administering the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Program. On 5/27/10, the Department of Education announced a request for public comment on a proposed revision to the District Fast Response Survey of Dropout Prevention, which the National Center for Education Statistics plans to use to conduct a district survey about dropout prevention services and programs. On 5/26/10, the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions approved S 2781, to change references in federal law to “mental retardation” to references to an “intellectual disability,” and to change references to a “mentally retarded individual” to references to an “individual with an intellectual disability.”
On 5/27/10, the Social Security Administration announced a request for public comment on several submitted information collections, including the Beneficiary Recontact Form, and the Complaint Form for Allegations of Discrimination in Programs or Activities Conducted by the Social Security Administration. On 5/26/10, the Senate continued consideration of HR 4899, making emergency supplemental appropriations for disaster relief and summer jobs for the fiscal year ending 9/30/10.
On 5/27/10, HHS announced several meetings throughout the month of June of the Health Information Technology Policy Committee’s Workgroups. On 5/27/10, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), announced a request for public comment on a proposed extension of a currently approved information collection, the Application for Waiver of the Foreign Residence Requirement of Section 212(e) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, which is used by USCIS to determine eligibility for a foreign residence waiver. On 5/27/10, the Department of Education announced a 6/25/10 meeting in Washington, DC, of the Advisory Committee on Student Financial Assistance to discuss the committee’s latest report, “The Rising Price of Inequality: How Inadequate Need-Based Grant Aid Limits College Access and Persistence,” and to discuss the Higher Education Regulation study. On 5/27/10, the Department of Education announced the annual updates to the tables used in the statutory “Federal Need Analysis Methodology” to determine a student’s expected family contribution for award year 2011 for the student financial aid programs authorized under the Higher Education Act of 1965. On 5/27/10, the Department of Veterans Affairs announced a request for public comment on amendments to the system of records entitled “Veteran, Patient, Employee, and Volunteer Research and Development Project Records,” which has been amended to increase the categories of individuals covered by the system, and to include more databases and research information systems among the categories of records in the system.
