On 5/26/10, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), announced a request for public comment on a proposed project, the Calibration of the Short Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire in the National Health Interview Survey, which will monitor the prevalence of children and youth with mental health problems. On 5/26/10, the Social Security Administration (SSA) announced a request for public comment on a proposed extension of a currently approved information collection, the Registration for Appointed Representative Services and Direct Payment, which is used to register appointed representatives of claimants before SSA for various reasons. On 5/26/10, SSA announced a 6/10/10 meeting in Memphis, TN, of the Occupational Information Development Advisory Panel to hear a presentation on the status of the SSA fiscal year 2010 Occupational Information System Development Project activities and the proposed integration with panel activities and to hear subcommittee chair reports, among other things. Presidential Action  
On 5/20/10, the president issued a proclamation declaring 5/23 – 5/29/10 “National Hurricane Preparedness Week,” and calling upon all Americans, especially those in hurricane-prone areas, to learn more about protecting themselves against hurricanes and to work together to respond to them. On 5/25/10, the Senate reached a unanimous-consent-time agreement providing that on Thursday, 6/10/10, the Republican leader or his designee will be recognized to move to proceed to the consideration of SJ Res 26, disapproving a rule submitted by the Environmental Protection Agency relating to the endangerment finding and the case or contribute findings for greenhouse gases under Section 202(a) of the Clean Air Act.

On 5/26/10, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), HHS, announced a request for public comment on an interim final rule issuing a regulation defining “underserved rural community” for purposes of the Rural Physician Training Grant Program of the Public Health Service Act. On 5/24/10, the president signed S 1067 (PL 111-172), to support stabilization and lasting peace in northern Uganda and areas affected by the Lord’s Resistance Army through development of a regional strategy to support multilateral efforts to successfully protect civilians and eliminate the threat posed by the Lord’s Resistance Army and to authorize funds for humanitarian relief and reconstruction, reconciliation, and transitional justice.

On 5/25/10, the House passed H Res 1353, to support the goals and ideals of Student Financial Aid Awareness Month to raise awareness of student financial aid.

On 5/26/10, the Department of Education announced the deadline dates for the receipt of documents and other information from institutions and applicants for the federal student aid programs authorized under Title IV of the Higher Education act of 1965. The federal student aid programs include the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, the Federal Family Education Loan, the Federal Work-Study, the Federal Perkins Loan, and the Federal Pell Grant, among others. On 5/26/10, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Department of Homeland Security, announced a final policy entitled “Hazard Mitigation Funding Under Section 406 (Stafford Act),” which provides guidance on the appropriate use of hazard mitigation discretionary funding available under the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act so as to ensure national consistency in the use of mitigation funds and to promote measures that reduce future loss to life and property, protect the federal investment in public infrastructure, and ultimately help build disaster-resistant communities.
