On 3/9/10, the Administration for Children and Families, Department of Health and Human Services, announced a request for public comment on two proposed projects, the Child Support Enforcement Program Expenditure Report, and the Child Support Enforcement Program Collection Report, which are used by state and tribal agencies administering the Child Support Enforcement Program under Title IV-D of the Social Security Act to report quarterly expenditures and collections, respectively. On 3/9/10, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced a final rule amending its regulations to exempt portions of a DHS/U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) system of records, the DHS/ICE Removable Alien Records System (renamed the “DHS/ICE Immigration and Enforcement Operational Records System”), from one or more provisions of the Privacy Act because of criminal, civil, and administrative enforcement requirements. On 3/9/10, the National Protection and Programs Directorate, DHS, announced a request for public comment on a submitted information collection, the United States Visitor and Immigrant Status Indicator Technology (US-VISIT), which collects and disseminates biometric information (digital fingerprint images and facial photos) from individuals during their entry into the United States. This information is disseminated to specific DHS components, other federal agencies, federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, and the federal intelligence community to assist in the decisions made related to and in support of the homeland security mission. The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will hold a hearing titled “Intelligence Reform: The Lessons and Implications of the Christmas Day Attack: Watch-Listing and Pre-Screening.” The hearing is the third installment in a set of hearings to address the 12/25 terrorism attempt against Northwest Flight 253. The House Veterans’ Affairs Committee will mark up several bills, including HR 3976, to extend certain expiring provisions providing enhanced protections for servicemembers relating to mortgages and mortgage foreclosure; and HR 4667, to increase, effective as of 12/1/10, the rates of compensation for veterans with service-connected disabilities and the rates of dependency and indemnity compensation for the survivors of certain disabled veterans. 3/10/10, 10 am, 334 Cannon.
On 3/9/10, the Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (VETS), Department of Labor, announced a request for public comment on a proposed information collection, the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) and Veteran’s Preference Form 1010, which is used to filed complaints with VETS under either USERRA or laws and regulations related to veterans’ preference in federal employment.
