On 1/28/10, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved the nominations of James A. Wynn Jr., and Albert Diaz, both of North Carolina, to be United States Circuit Judges for the Fourth Circuit.

On 1/28/10, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved S 1749, to amend Title 18, United States Code, to prohibit the possession or use of cell phones and similar wireless devices by federal prisoners.

On 1/29/10, the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS), DOJ, announced a request for public comment on an extension of a previously approved information collection, the COPS Hiring Recovery Program Progress Report, which is completed by law enforcement and partner public safety agencies that are recipients of COPS Hiring Recovery Program grants. On 1/29/10, the Office of Violence Against Women (OVW), DOJ, announced a request for public comment on a submitted information collection, the OVW Solicitation Template, which will provide a framework to states, territories, tribes, domestic violence coalitions, and others to develop program-specific announcements soliciting applications for funding. On 1/29/10, the Administration on Aging (AoA), Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), announced a request for public comment on a proposed information collection, the State Program Report of the Older Americans Act (OAA), which serves as a key source for AoA performance management by collecting information on the demographic and functional status of the recipients, and on how state agencies on aging expend their OAA funds and funding from other sources for OAA authorized supportive services. On 1/28/10, the Senate passed S 2799, to expand the Iran Sanctions Act of 1996, to provide for the divestment of assets in Iran by state and local governments and other entities, and to identify locations of concern with respect to transshipment, reexportation, or diversion of certain sensitive items to Iran.

On 1/28/10, the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee approved S 1237, to amend Title 18, United States Code, to expand the grant program for homeless veterans with special needs to include male homeless veterans with minor dependents and to establish a grant program for reintegration of homeless women veterans and homeless veterans with children.
