On 1/26/10, the House passed S 2949 (the Emergency Aid to American Survivors of the Haiti Earthquake Act), to amend Section 1113 of the Social Security Act to provide authority for increased fiscal year 2010 payments for temporary assistance to U.S. citizens returned from foreign countries, and to provide necessary funding to avoid shortfalls in the Medicare cost-sharing program for low-income qualifying individuals.
On 1/27/10, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), announced a request for public comment on a proposed project, the Prevention Research Centers Program National Evaluation Reporting System, which will use a user-friendly web-based survey system and telephone interviews to conduct outcomes-oriented health promotion and disease prevention research on a broad range of topics. On 1/27/10, CDC, HHS, announced a request for public comment on a proposed project which will develop and pilot-test three novel behavioral interventions to reduce sexual risk for HIV infection and transmission among African-American bisexual men who do not inject drugs. On 1/27/10, the State Department announced a 2/1/10 meeting in Washington, DC, of the Organization of American States Specialized Conference on Private International Law Study Group to continue the 1/15/10 discussion on proposed international laws and conventions, and to consider whether to pursue ratification of the Inter-American Convention on the Law Applicable to International Contracts.
