On 9/2/09, the National Institutes of Health, HHS, announced a 9/17/09 meeting in Washington, DC, of the Fogarty International Center (FIC) Advisory Board to discuss research opportunities surrounding the increasing burden of mental health disorders in low- and middle-income countries and U.S.-based and overseas activities under the FIC Framework program, which aims to create curricula and career pathways in global health research. On 9/8/09, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), HHS, announced a publication containing modifications that the agency is making to the list of standards FDA recognizes for use in premarket review. On 9/8/09, the FDA, HHS, announced a 9/14/09-9/16/09 conference in Washington, DC, entitled “Securing the Future of Medical Product Quality: A 2020 Vision,” which will work to achieve objectives set forth in the FDA Modernization Act of 1997, including working closely with stakeholders and maximizing the availability and clarity of information to stakeholders and the public. On 9/3/09, the CDC, HHS, announced a request for public comment on a proposed project, the Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) Surveillance Network of the National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STDs, and Tuberculosis Elimination Programs, which aims to improve the capacity of national, state, and local STD programs to detect, monitor, and respond rapidly to trends in STDs through enhanced collection, reporting, analysis, visualization and interpretation of disease information. On 9/8/09, the CDC, HHS, announced a request for public comment on a proposed project entitled “Formative Research and Tool Development for the National Center for HIV, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention,” which supports behavioral projects for HIV/AIDS prevention and control, and which has been expanded to include formative research and instrument testing for sexually transmitted infections, viral hepatitis, and tuberculosis infection. On 9/8/09, HUD announced the availability on its website of information on the fiscal year 2009 Section 811 Supportive Housing for Persons with Disabilities; and the Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly, which provides funding for the development and operation of supportive housing for very low-income persons who are 62 years of age or older. On 9/8/09, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, DHS, announced a request for public comment on proposed base flood elevations (BFEs) and proposed BFE modifications for listed communities. The BFEs and modified BFEs are a part of the floodplain management measures that the community is required to adopt in order to qualify or remain qualified for participation in the National Flood Insurance Program.
